TV Pop Pundit/Celebrated Author/Celebrity
John Robb (born in Blackpool, England) is an accomplished author, musician, journalist, TV pundit, voiceover artist, radio DY, record producer and vocalist in the punk rock band Goldblade, he frequently appears as a journalist/pop pundit/commentator on both terrestrial & Digital TV for various documentary and music programmes.
John was inspired by the DIY ethic of punk to form the critically acclaimed Membranes who released several albums in the 1980s. The band toured the world several times. He then went on to write for the music paper Sounds and was the first person in the world to interview Nirvana as well as being the first to write about the new Madchester scene of the Stone Roses and Happy Mondays in Sounds music paper in the late eighties. He also coined the term 'Britpop' whilst writing for Sounds in 1989.
He has written several books including the best selling biog of the Stone Roses, ‘The Stone Roses And The resurrection Of British Pop’ and his current book the acclaimed and big selling ‘Punk Rock- An Oral History’.
He is currently working on a history of Manchester Music book, and a book about the eighties underground scene as well as developing more ideas for TV. He is also the spokesperson for the upcoming Tony Wilson Experience event in Manchester. He produced several bands, including Therapy? And Cornershop which he also co-managed.
His own band Goldblade have released several critically acclaimed albums including 2005's successful ‘Rebel Songs’ and they toured the world a number of times to packed houses, headlining punk festivals in Russia, America as well as in the UK.
As an accomplished author & autobiographer, John wrote the best selling biography of The Stone Roses, ‘Stone Roses And The Resurrection Of British Pop’ and the best selling ‘Punk Rock: An Oral History ‘which has been translated into several different languages! He is constantly in demand as a "cultural commentator" and 'pop pundit' on various Terrestrial & Digital TV and radio shows and has produced and presented an award winning ten-part documentary on the history of punk rock.
TELEVISION CAREER (TERRESTRIAL & DIGITAL):
John has appeared as a pop pundit on many television programmes including the UK's Channel 4's "Top 100" shows, the BBC's "I Love the 60s/70s/80s/90s" series and "7 Ages Of Rock", as well as offering expert pop culture opinion on several TV debate shows on the BBC, Sky & Channel 4 news. He has been a regular contributor to Sky's "The Pop Years", and produced and presented a 10 part series on the history of punk rock. He also presented a 12-part guide to the arts in NorthWest of England.

JOURNALISM:
John has worked as a journalist for many years. He wrote for ZigZag in the 1980s, and was a regular freelance contributor to the popular UK music paper Sounds in the late 1980s, as well as writing for the legendary Melody Maker. He now writes for various UK broadsheets such as The Sunday Times, The Observer, The Guardian, The Independent, Mojo and several websites & music magazines, He also contributes to the The Big Issue in the UK and several foreign magazines from Turkey to Algeria to America, Russia and and Brazil.
John is currently touring again with his band Goldblade & is working on some more TV & book ideas, including the 10th Anniversary of the "Brit Pop" phenomenon.
